I was the major author of the Wikipedia article that you have used to create this article. The first paragraph states that Leonardo was a “Roman Catholic”. This is not a good way to describe Leonardo. In fact, it is wishful thinking. The evidence is rather to the contrary. While we do know that his father had him baptised, the indications are that he was either brought up a Jew (born of a Jewish mother), or that he was an atheist or a heretic. He was almost certainly a heretic, but may have been atheist as well. He revealed nothing of his religious beliefs in all the thousands and thousands of words that he wrote. At the end of his life, he made confession and received the sacraments, but the reason for this is almost certainly that if he had not done so, the King of France, who was his dear friend, would have been very embarrassed at not being able to give him a Christian burial.

Michelangelo, on the other hand, was a deeply religious man with a great knowledge of the scriptures.

Thank you for your feedback. Indeed, Leonardo was not a practicing Catholic during his life, with the exception of the end of his life as you noted. The article will be revised. Thank you again for taking the time to comment and help make New World Encyclopeda a valuable information resource.
