Dear editors,

Heinrich von Kleist should be put, alphabetically, under the letter “K” (not “V”) because the family name is Kleist.

See entry “Goethe”: “During this time Goethe wrote some of his most moving lyric poetry, including what is perhaps his most popular love-song, Wilkommen und Abscheid (“Welcome and Farewell”) written for one of the many milkmaids whom Goethe, throughout his life, would unsuccessfully woo.”

The person who chose this scientific approach could not avoid to give Goethe a litte kick in the butt, right? Better omit it, even if you can stand the poet, because it is not true. He wrote being influenced by Friederike von Brion, a vicar’s daughter, not “for one of the many milkmaids”, he “throughout his life, would unsuccessfully woo”.

Regards from Germany
Thomas

Thank you, Thomas, for your comment. You point is well taken, the use of “von” in German names should not lead to them being listed under “V.”
That will be changed.
Thank you again for taking the time to help make NWE a valuable information resource.
