so that people are not mistaken your numbers in your first line are wrong, here is what you say ( Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr. ( July 14, 1913 – December 26, 2006) was the 38th president of the United States. He also served as the 40th vice president.) i do not think he was the 40th vp if he was the 38th president….

Thank you for your comment. However, the statement is correct – Gerald Ford was the 40th Vice-President prior to being the 38th President. The numbers for President and Vice-President do not match because on many occasions a President had more than one Vice-President (for example, Nixon had 2 – Spiro Agnew and then Gerald Ford, and FDR had 3); on other occasions the Vice-President becomes the President. In other words, the numbers of Presidents and Vice-Presidents are separate and independent.
