The end of this article is incorrect. Hamilton was famous for defending Tories, not chasing them out of the city. The incident you are speaking of involved Hamilton stalling the Liberty Boys long enough for the President of the University to escape out a window. He was not leading the angry mob, he was distracting it.

Here’s a link, page 10 clearly states this. I have read at least 3 historical books that agree with this interpretation. I have never read one that suggested he chased Tories out of town. That would have been in complete contrast with his character.
